School For Scanners!

And yet another blog - but I wanted to hold this name because I've always wanted to have a school for Scanners, devoted to encouraging all the interests any Scanner might have -- and inciting them to have even more. And specialists can happily continue to go their own way. :-)

Anna Kreisfeld Here's another thought I wanted to share. Wouldn't it be great if one day, there was a college for scanners ? Where you can pick 4 majors rather than one? Where a 'clear line' in your cv does not help you to get in, but how many different interests and paths you have taken?

    Great idea! Let's open one!

  2. A fellow Twitter person suggested I might be what you call a scanner (enough so that David Rendall of Freak Factory wrote me up as Freak of the Week for it!), so I had to find out who this person is!

I love what I'm reading. I can't wait to read more! There is so much to scan and weave here!

  3. Good grief, what a relief to read people who are talking my language! Trying to figure out my next endeavor (I recently closed my home-based bagel bakery), I've jotted down all my interests/ projects I've done since staying becoming a stay-at-home parent after my son was born, 8 years ago. Here's what I remember off the top of my head: freelance writing for local daily paper on social justice issues, (uncompleted) book to help kids cope w/ moving, blogged about unconventional toys, activities for kids (give 'em a roll of painters tape!) called, "Outside the Toybox". Fundraised and created art kits for kids at risk, attended sexual violence prevention conference and written about my experience as incest survivor, ran home-based bagel bakery, chaired PTA art contest, taught philosophy and social studies to son's class, interested in local politics- attended first League of Women Voters meeting. I just reserved a copy of "Refuse to Choose" from our local library, can't wait to read it.

How do I make some sort of living when I fear boredom from having to choose one thing?

I come across as enthusiastic, hard working and bright, so fairly readily am invited to come aboard some venture or other, but then I fear getting stuck in that one thing.

Should I try and find that "good enough" job now, or return to school (I have a B.S. in psychology) for an MSW?.

Anyway, thanks for your information and your support and encouragement. I feel less lonely and it feels so good that there are other people who not only understand, but also march to multiple beats!

  4. Dear Barbara,
that is a really nice idea.
What about an online school for scanners?
I think I would like online learning, and I would like to join this school. :-)
Looking forward to see you in Frankfurt for your scanner-lessons,
    kind regards,
    Melanie

    1. By the way, I am a visual learner and I have to translate evereything that I hear into pictures. Therefore I would like more to read information instead of listening and to have pictures, diagrams, tables and other kinds of charts.

Maybe, we could talk about this idea in september?
